Sustainability
We feel privileged to provide families with high quality, gentle yet effective personal care products while maintaining a balance with nature to offer you peace of mind. We appreciate the beauty and bounty that life has to offer and we make every effort to reduce our impact on the environment in order to protect it for future generations. In every decision we make, regarding our products and materials - no matter how small - the impact on the environment is considered seriously.
OUR FORMULATIONS
Our vegan products are formulated according to green chemistry principles using carefully selected plant-based, natural ingredients. We ensure that our ingredients are ethically and sustainably sourced. We strive to avoid palm oil and palm oil derivatives. On the rare occasion that we use palm oil, we ensure that it is RSPO certificated. We source organic ingredients where possible and without fertilisers or genetically modified organisms. We avoid questionable ingredients for health and environmental reasons such as mineral oils, parabens, SLS, DEA as well as artificial colours and fragrance.
OUR INGREDIENTS
Your family deserves the best, so each Florian Botanicals product is created using high quality, efficacious ingredients. Extensive research ensures we strike a delicate balance between delivering optimum skin benefits and reducing the impact on our planet. We believe that the Earth’s resources should be treated with respect.
We have an internal auditing system that measures a variety of factors to determine an ingredient’s carbon footprint and the impact its use will have on the environment. Our relationship with our suppliers plays a crucial part in achieving our sustainability goals. These include looking at harvesting processes, source location and mode of transport. We also consider upcycled ingredients in our formulations.
MANUFACTURING
All Florian Botanicals products are formulated and manufactured by us in the UK. This gives us total control over ingredients sourcing, ensuring good manufacturing processes and measuring the carbon footprint of this part of the process. We consider the energy needed for production when formulating and use green energy at our manufacturing site. We create our products in small bathes to ensure quality and freshness.
OUR PACKAGING
We scrutinise every material used to package our products and we're always looking for innovative non-plastic alternatives. Our internal auditing system evaluates the carbon footprint associated with the production of that material as well as the material's afterlife impact.
We aim to limit our footprint by using materials that are recyclable or biodegradable and avoiding unnecessary packaging. Our containers are made from recyclable glass and aluminium. Our labels contain 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and printed with ink certified by the Nordic Swan. Our tissue paper and stickers are printed on FSC certified, acid free paper with soy-based ink. Our string is hemp, which is more sustainable option than cotton.
Recycled, size appropriate packaging is used for postage. We work tirelessly to find solutions to minimise our waste, not just in terms of packaging, but we also consider the impact from distributing our products.
Our tins are aluminium. It’s lightweight, durable and malleable material that can be recycled repeatedly. The most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. The disadvantages are the pollution associated with aluminium and ensuring its recycled. To produce aluminium cans, manufacturers must strip-mine bauxite ore to gain alumina. This method leaves behind liquid waste that can pollute soil and groundwater. The upside of this is that it can be recycled indefinitely without losing its quality and with little impact. The recyclability of aluminium packaging is only as good as those who are willing to make the effort to ensure it gets recycled. Despite being 100% recyclable, aluminium still ends up in landfill sites.
Glass has pro’s and con’s; it is not a fossil-fuel based material and is infinitely recyclable, but when created as a virgin material, it's actually very energy intensive and it's made from sand which is not a renewable source. It is also heavy to transport which contributes to the carbon footprint along with the need of outer protective packaging.
SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
We are a small company but with big dreams. We are by no means perfect, but we have goals. We believe that sustainability is a continues journey, and by taking small, manageble steps we can impliment our plan. We hope that sustainability would become engrained in society and become mainstream in all businesses, without green washing. A sustainable solution to a modern future of prosperity to all.
